In all my excitement to post my homemade salsa recipe, I totally forgot that I also owed you a CKDC Book Club post today - guess that just means you lucky ducks get TWO posts today! Welcome to the second monthly CKDC Book Club, just in time for beach read season! My favorite thing to do this time of year is escape to my roof with a book and stay up there til I'm done. I fully blame my Kindle for all of my sunburns the past few years! This month, I'll be giving you some of my favorite beach reads, guaranteed to get you through the summer!
Pretty Girls, by Karin Slaughter. This book is TERRIFYING and impossible to put down. After two people separately recommended it to me in the same day, I knew I had to read it, and both of them were subjected to my live-texting of the book - "Wait, he did WHAT?!"
Fates and Furies, by Lauren Groff. Split into two halves and narrated by the husband and then the wife, this story follows a couple in New York. The difference between the two perspectives is riveting, and the second half has you going wait WHAT? (clearly a theme in the books I've picked so far) Plus, it was President Obama's favorite book last year. A+, would recommend.
Crazy Rich Asians, by Kevin Kwan. This is a super fun beach read following a woman who goes to visit her boyfriend's family in Singapore for the first time, where she encounters some pretty insane wealth and spending. I blew through this in a day and was so excited when I realized there was a sequel, too. Important note: the title refers to being crazy rich, not crazy AND rich!
Me Before You, by Jojo Moyes. Chances are you've already read this, but if you HAVEN'T, get to it before the movie comes out so you can be one of those people (you know what I mean - I'm one of them, too). About a young woman who becomes the caretaker of a paraplegic man, you'll fall in love with the characters immediately. This one's a tearjerker, so you can hide your tears behind your sunglasses.
Before I Go to Sleep, by S.J. Watson. Another great thriller! This one follows a woman who wakes up with no memory and finds a journal chronicling her life since an accident that left her without a short term memory. Sounds pretty 50 First Dates-like, but the twist is insane. I almost missed my metro stop when I got to the end of this one because I didn't want to put it down.
