Happy Easter, everyone! It's beautiful here in Sarasota with Tim and Tata, and I hope it's just as nice where you are! There's nothing better than a relaxing weekend with family, and it's given me a chance to catch up on my reading - I'm currently on The Nest, per Amazon's recommendation. What are you guys reading? I am CONSTANTLY on the hunt for new books, and I'll take a real person's recommendation over a "top books" list anytime. Speaking of books, here's what I'm loving this week:
A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara. I read this a while ago, but all of a sudden everyone I know is talking about it so it looks like it's not going anywhere! I couldn't put this 700+ page book down until I was done, and it completely consumed me (that's probably a weird way to put it, but whatever, it did). I dreamed about the characters and thought about them for days after I finished the book. This is by no means a quick read, but it's thought provoking, heartbreaking, and truly incredible. Definitely a 2016 must-read.
This bourbon cough syrup. I don't know WHAT is happening at my office, but two people on my six person team have come down with the flu in the past week, so my fingers are extra crossed that it doesn't spread to me. But, if it does, at least I'll have a great excuse for a nightcap! Plus, probably more generally applicable, I think this back-and-forth is-it-spring-or-is-it-winter weather is terrible for our health, so do your body a favor and drink some bourbon!
This video about inmates in low-security prisons training stray dogs. So, so sweet, plus there are subtitles so you can watch at work / on the train / wherever without needing to put on headphones! i.e. my perfect video.
This bourbon caramelized bacon and heirloom tomato BLT. Apparently it's bourbon week... but look at that BLT! Can you blame me?
This super handy chicken marinade combinations chart. I have most of these ingredients in my fridge, and I'm always looking for new rubs and marinades that won't make me buy 100 random ingredients!
This list of the only pans you really need in your kitchen. Having just had to throw away my saucepan due to the Balsamic Glaze Incident of 2016, these recommendations came in super handy this week! Plus, for all the other tiny kitchen dwellers out there, this is really helpful to figure out what you actually need taking up your limited cabinet space.
This list of cooking tips and tricks (apparently I'm on a Buzzfeed kick this week). I want to try that grilled cheese trick immediately!
This article satirizing trend pieces in the New York Times. "“When it comes down to it, life is really all about finding a hashtag for yourself and sending hilarious emoji on Venmo,” Packard said, and then, after a moment of reflection, added: “Lena Dunham.”"
