Wine Wednesday: 14 Hands Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Introducing: Wine Wednesdays! Wine is definitely my drink of choice, and I'm always on the hunt for a cheap bottle that still tastes good. Though my parents have done their best to teach me about wine, I'm pretty sure the only times I've spent over $15 on a bottle are when I'm at a winery or out to dinner - otherwise, I'm heading straight to the bottom shelf (or, more accurately, the Two Buck Chuck section of Trader Joe's). I have the feeling I'm not alone in that, so Wine Wednesday is for people who, like me, aren't willing to spend a lot of money on an everyday wine but don't want to drink something that tastes like vinegar. And so, without further ado, the first weekly Wine Wednesday!

Wine: 14 Hands Cabernet Sauvignon (i.e. the wine I only refer to as Cabernet so I don't have to try to say that second word) 2013
Price: $14.99 (it was $17.99 but it was $3 off)
Wine Spectator Score: 88
Where I Bought It: Liquor store (the one at 17th and L, for you DC people)
Why I Bought It: I asked the guy at the liquor store for a good cabernet for under $15 and, shocker, he picked the most expensive one. Whatever.
What I Ate With It: Smoked salmon avocado toast (coming Friday on the blog!)
Review: I really liked this wine. It was smooth and didn't have that kind of tart finish cheap wines can have. Actually, the other two bottles the guy recommended did have that, so he was 1 for 3 on recommendations. I should have known better when he led me to the "2 for $16" rack. I probably would have preferred a white wine overall with the salmon, but it was cold out and I couldn't bring myself to buy cold wine. I don't think I'll buy this again for a casual night since it's a little expensive, but this is a good one to bring to a dinner party. Also, writing this post right now is making me want to die given that I have to bribe Tim with wine to watch the Bachelor with me and last night was a 3 hour episode so it required a lot of wine.
